Young Enterprise
Congratulations to our Young Enterprise students who took part in the Subsea7 competition this week.
The team went up against five other schools, and we are proud to announce that our #teamCHSG students won the Best Company Award and the Sustainable Award for their company, Jelly World.
The students worked extremely hard. They were presented with their awards by Councillor Colin Stears, the current Mayor of the London Borough of Sutton.
They will now move onto the next phase of the competition, the London Regionals taking place next week in Teddington.
Below is a write-up of the journey so far by one of the team members.
Jelly World, a female- run company that sells handmade keychains which use recycled plastic water bottles collected by students from our school. There have been many highs and lows during our time as a company, such as losing around 10 members during the process. This meant that roles had to be reallocated to different members, some members even had to share tasks. However, on a more positive note, we have made many lasting memories. We introduced a bottle bin scheme. To our surprise, this was a success, and we had over 300 bottles to create our keychains from. To make our company stand out we bought eye-catching jellyfish hats for one of our markets. Even though everyone looked at us like we were crazy, it was a fun experience to promote our business and make it recognisable to others. Some people even asked whether we were selling these hats.
On the 22nd of April we had a keychain sale to sell the rest of their stock along with some cake and brownies. It was a huge success! We ended up making around £200 from the sale. After winning the first stage of the Young Enterprise competition, next steps for us, are the regionals next week.
Overall, I recommend the Young Enterprise programme to younger years who would like to be part of setting up a business from scratch as this experience has given me the knowledge and skills of how to set one up and how to sell in person.
