Year 10 Careers Day
Year 10 students at CHSG were provided with a valuable introduction to the world of work last week, during their first Careers Day of the academic year.
The event was designed to help students prepare for their upcoming work experience placements, which will be happening from 31st March to 3rd April 2025.
The day kicked off with a comprehensive introduction to work experience, explaining its importance as a stepping stone to their future success. Students learnt how the placement process works, the types of opportunities that may be available, and how work experience can develop and enhance their enterprise and employability skills, build confidence and allow them to explore potential careers.
Following this, the students participated in a practical CV workshop. With guidance from the Career's department, Year 10's worked on creating or refining their own CVs, learning how to highlight their strengths, experiences, and skills in a professional format.
The final part of the day focused on the often-dreaded cover letter. Students were introduced to the key elements of a strong cover letter, and how to convey enthusiasm and professionalism. They had the opportunity to begin drafting their own cover letters, which they can later use to request their work experience placements. As a school, we like to encourage students to find their own placements and these cover letters will help to ensure their placement is both suitable and relevant to the individual.
If you are a parent of a Year 10 student, please look out for the email that has been sent to you that includes all the key information and advises how you can support your child prior to and during their work experience placements.
