Welcome 

As the calendar year draws to a close, it has been a busy end to term! The highlight was Year 7 who held their fantastic Christmas Fair yesterday. It’s hard to believe they have reached the end of their first term; it seems only yesterday that they were arriving! Year 7 have settled in incredibly well and we look forward to seeing all of their achievements over the coming years. 

We return to school on Monday 8^th January 2024.  It will be a later start to the day for students and the gates will be open at 10.40am.  Please note we cannot accept students before this time as staff will be undertaking training and there will be no one available to supervise.  Registration will run from 11am – 11.10am with Lesson 3 starting at 11.15am.  There will be no break time on this day.  Lunch will run as per normal timings.  

I wanted to take the time to say thank you to the many parents/carers who support us day in and day out.  Research continues to prove that the students who are most successful come from home environments where parents/carers remain involved in their child’s education and work actively alongside the school.  That relationship remains key, and I know the vast majority of you value that ongoing relationship.

I also want to say thank you to my staff who work tirelessly in helping us to achieve our motto of Excellence: everywhere, every day.  Their enthusiasm and aspirations for our students make this the great school it is.   

Finally, thank you to our wonderful #teamchsg students!  This term has been a very successful term, judging by the vast number of rewards and high attendance rates. Our students are a key part of our growth and development and I wanted to share with you my recognition of their achievement so far this year.  Particular praise to our Year 11 students for their hard work and commitment, especially with Period 6 lessons in this final week!  They continued to work diligently, and we know this will be of enormous benefit to them next year.

Year 7

Reward Assembly

On Tuesday we had our reward assembly where students were recognised for all their hard work this term. Year 7s have worked incredibly hard as the number of achievement stars received indicate. ALL students got one, with majority receiving a gold star. This is truly impressive. Congratulations to Year 7s.

Christmas Fair

Year 7 had the Christmas fair on Wednesday 20^th December 2023. They raised nearly £600 for charity - Lepra.

Attendance

106 of 272 students in year 7, nearly 40%, had 100% attendance this term. This is evidence of your continued commitments as parent/carers to the education of your daughters. Thank you for your support.

Year 8

Merry Christmas, what a fantastic end of term of we've had starting with our rewards assembly. There are so many fantastic students in this school and especially in Year 8 that need to be celebrated and it was such an honour for us as a team and as tutors to recognise the hard work and achievement of those students, from excellence in lessons to incredible attendance. 

It's been lovely to see all of the students celebrating each other with Secret Santa's and with kindness letters organised by our fantastic Friendship Ambassadors. We've also taken a great opportunity to write some lovely letters to a number of local care homes wishing the residents a merry Christmas and Happy New Year. 

Finally, it has been great to see all of the work with the Christmas Hampers and Sixth Form Charity Movie Night, it's clear that the students are getting involved with the Team CHSG community and looking for opportunities to encourage and support others.  We hope you all have a fantastic Christmas and get some great family time, rest and relaxation.

Year 9

Firstly, I would like to congratulate Year 9 for completing their first term as GCSE students. They have worked hard to hit their targets and you will be receiving their Academic Progress reports shortly. Please review this document with your child and set some new targets for next term.

Secondly, I would like to remind you of the Academic Review Day on the 25^th January. Bookings for this day will be open soon  and you will be able to book either a face to face or online appointment with a member of the pastoral team. If you have any difficulties when the bookings open, please contact Mr Stockwell for further guidance.

Finally, all students were given a new timetable at the start of this week. This should enable them to prepare for the return to school in January. We will be returning on Week 1 so please make sure they have packed for the correct day.

Year 10

As we come to the end of Autumn term, we will be celebrating the success of our students and their hard work. We will be celebrating the students showing academic excellent, fantastic behaviour and excellent attendance during our rewards assembly.

I have been extremely proud of how all of the students have settled into Year 10 and the level of motivation they have shown towards their learning.

I want to thank you for your ongoing support and wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Year 11

Year 11 students have certainly earned their well deserved Christmas break having worked extremely hard this term.

We have had a lot to celebrate in Year 11 this term with a record number pink t shirts awarded in the first round, well over 200 stars and certificates awarded in the final week to students who have every day given 100% to their studies and their school community.

I am also delighted to say that the attendance for this term in Year 11 has been well above the national average.

Sixth Form

The Sixth Form have certainly been making their mark by getting involved in as many events and exploring their interests through the different roles of responsibility that they have been taking up. 

Below are some of the some of the roles/responsibilities that Sixth Form students have been involved in: 

• Organising and running prom fundraising events
• Supporting co-curricular clubs
• In charge of different aspects of the Winter concert
• Supporting the preparation for the school production
• Working with the catering staff 
• Tour guides for Secondary Transfer Evening
• Working party for Equality and Diversity
• Hospitality team for Sixth Form events
• Part of paired reading
• Appointed as subject mentors
• Community librarians
• Assisting with Christmas decorations around the school
• Part of the Young Enterprise team 

The hard work of all our students is greatly appreciated as their impact is noticed around the school. 

Attendance: The congratulations continue as Sixth Form end the Autumn on 94% attendance. A special well done to 12Y1 with 99% attendance and 13B1 and 13G1 with 95% attendance. This continues to be a whole-school focus.

Student spotlight: Ridaa A. 12B1

I volunteered to help with the cookies and catch-up events with internal Year 11 students; sixth form opening evenings, and the open afternoon for external students. I have benefitted from these experiences as I met the potential future Year 12 members of CHSG. Also being able to get to know my new teachers. To me, this felt rewarding as I understood my strengths and explored new ways to help others. Though one of my responsibilities was to share knowledge, I also gained knowledge from other students. There were opportunities for me to bond with new students and previous students that attended high school with me. 

For the Sixth Form opening evening, I was given the chance to be the student ambassador for the Philosophy department. Within this role, I created leaflets that were distributed on the night to parents and potential students. 

During the externals open afternoon visit, I was part of the hospitality team to meet and greet and assist with the handling of food. I have enjoyed my time volunteering to help in various roles.

Message for Christmas

Wishing everyone a blissful time over the holiday period. Students have earned a well-deserved time to rest, and we look forward to welcoming our wonderful students back on Monday 8^th January 2024.
